2.5 GigE Vision Camera IMX993

MER3-321-91G3M-P-SWIR is part of MER3 2.5GigE series. It is an industrial 2.5GigE vision camera, with a 2.5GigE interface. 2.5GigE is the most common interface used for cameras in traditional machine vision applications. The MER3 series contains high resolutions for global shutter sensors.

PoE (Power over Ethernet)

Power over Ethernet (PoE) for GigE allows both power and data to be transmitted through a single standard Ethernet cable. This simplifies cabling and shortens installation time, especially in setups where no hardware trigger or I/O is needed.

However, when an application requires I/O functionality, it is recommended to power the camera through the I/O connector instead. Compared to I/O power, PoE typically consumes more energy. Since the incoming PoE voltage must be converted to a lower level, the camera generates additional heat, which makes it run warmer.

A PoE-enabled GigE camera is also slightly larger than its non-PoE counterpart because it includes an extra circuit board for extracting and converting power from the Ethernet line. This added hardware also makes the PoE version more expensive than the non-PoE model.

Monochrome SWIR Industrial Camera

Monochrome SWIR GigE cameras are widely used in semiconductor inspection to reveal defects invisible to standard cameras, in moisture detection since water absorbs light around 1450nm, and in material identification, as different materials (e.g., plastics and metals) have unique infrared reflectance properties. A Monochrome SWIR Industrial Camera (Visible-SWIR camera) captures light from 400nm to 1700nm using Sony’s IMX993 SWIR image sensor, covering both visible and short-wave infrared (SWIR) spectra. This allows a single camera, such as the MER3-321-91G3M-P-SWIR, to replace the traditional dual setup of visible and SWIR cameras. The result is reduced cost, faster processing, and an expanded detection range, making it a versatile solution for various industrial applications.
